Once fully charged, it captures and stores energy up to six months. Kinetic – the most advanced electronic watch technology.

Environmentally friendly. This masculine watch has a brushed steel case with a Black Ion Finish and is presented on an attractive link bracelet; polished steel bezel is accented with studded detail. The attractive black dial has Lumi Brite hands and markers with twelve month and twenty-four hour subdials.

The calendar is accurate to 2100. 100 meters water resistant. Kinetic: A powerhouse in technological innovationLike mechanical and quartz, Kinetic is a platform. Over the past 20 years, SEIKO has created on this platform a suite of Kinetic movements, each bringing unique features to the consumer.

It was at the 1986 Basel Fair that SEIKO unveiled its first Kinetic prototype. Introduced under the trial name of ‘AGM’, it was the first watch in the world to convert kinetic movement into electrical energy. It was the first step in a development that, 20 years later, has made Kinetic synonymous with environmental friendliness, high performance and long-lasting convenience to a generation of users worldwide.

From the launch in 1988 of the first commercially available watch (then under the new name AGS) until today, over eight million Kinetic watches have been sold (as of 2007). In 1998, Kinetic Auto Relay was released, extending the ‘at-rest’ operating period of the watch to a remarkable 4 years. 1999 saw the launch of the Ultimate Kinetic Chronograph, a masterpiece which fused the very best of SEIKO’s mechanical and electronic watch making skills, and in 2003 another Kinetic Chronograph was launched.

At Baselworld 2005, the Kinetic Perpetual made its first appearance, combining Kinetic convenience and longevity with a perpetual calendar, correct to the year 2100. In 2007, SEIKO’s emotional technology Kinetic Direct Drive is introduced.

Great watch, a bit heavy

Review Date: July 27, 2006
Reviewer: Gadget Lover, Texas
Beautiful watch whose benefits far outweigh any negatives. I didn't have any trouble telling time on the smaller portion of the face as other people mentioned on similar models. In other models people also complained about the glow in the dark hands but in pitch darkness, they worked fine for me (and in low light the face of the watch is reflective enough to catch light and tell the time). In the end I had to buy it elsewhere because Amazon upped their price by $40 to $380 (now it looks like they upped it even more) but if the price lowers here again, it's definitely the best deal.

Pros: - Looks great
- Seiko Kinetic so will never need to change battery
- Keeps great time - has only lost 1 second from my
computer clock (internet synched) in past week

Cons: - A bit on the heavy side (from what I have heard this is
to be expected on Seiko Kinetic watches)
- Band tends to pinch on hair on wrist or forearm.

Great watch with terrible band

Review Date: August 2, 2009
Reviewer: Donald L. Buckle, SW Texas
A good dive watch with a terribly uncomfortable hard rubber watch band. I gave it an overall rating of 3 stars based on 5 stars for the watch proper and 1 star for the band.

Besides being uncomfortable, the band loop is a very sharp edged metal (SS). It pinches skin whenever it's moved.

I replaced the watch band within 48 hours after receiving the watch.

A Brief History Of Seiko Watches

This week I thought you might like to know some of the background on Seiko Watches and how the company and the products have developed since their inception. It’s quite interesting and you may gleen some ideas on what the future holds for this innovative company.

Watches are classic. They are an essential part of every wardrobe, but they must also possess style and functionality to the wearer. For years, watches have been extremely popular gift ideas while remaining a constant self-indulging accessory.

In 1881, Kintaro Hattori opened a clock shop in Tokyo, which established a foundation for modern clock and watch making in Japan. This new brand was titled Read the rest of this entry

Is one method better than the other, or just a matter of preference? On the one hand, kinetic energy generation requires movement, whereas, a light-powered watch, such as a Citizen Eco-Drive model, is obviously more passive, and thus requires fewer moving parts.

Fewer parts is always better in terms of long-term reliability, however in the case of a watch it’s likely more of a moot point since analog Read the rest of this entry

Seiko Kinetic Watches

Over the past couple of decades Seiko has continued to develop a suite of Kinetic movements that have suceeded in bringing new and intriguing features to the consumer, and today has made the Kinetic platform synonymous with environmental friendliness, high performance and long-lasting convenience to users all over the World.

Seiko offers a wide variety of watches with various different Kinetic movements. The top of the range is the caliber 9T82

As with all existing Kinetic calibers, the wearer automatically generates electrical energy by the movement of the wrist. Kinetic Direct Drive also allows the wearer to generate energy by winding the crown.

However, unlike conventional watches, the time display dials are arranged in a position outside the center. The center hand is the chronograph second hand that can measure in 1/5-second increments. Hours and minutes of the main watch, showing the present time, are displayed on a dial at the lower position of the face of the watch and the second displayed on a dial at the upper left position of the face of the watch.

The chronograph minutes are displayed on a fan-shaped dial at the upper right position of the face of the watch and can measure time up to 45 minutes. A fly-back reset function to simultaneously return a hand to the zero position using the reset button after measurement has been adopted for each chronograph hand, owing to a mechanism that employs a heart cam that is usually used for mechanical chronographs.

I came across the following article this week whilst surfing the net. It has some good information on the Seiko Divers watch. It’s pretty comprehensive so I have added it here for your information.

Watches in general have the primary function of telling time and that’s why most people buy whatever watch they can find that looks good for their style while others care about added features and durability, which of course, are more expensive. However, divers have special needs and they need a watch that can help keep track of the time elapsed during underwater sessions so they can resurface without Read the rest of this entry
