Seiko has a long and established history of watchmaking. Since being established in 1881, Seiko has continued to add exciting and innovative products one after another, and in 1969 created the World’s first quartz watch.

Watch’s still remain as their core business, but it’s technological expertise in micro-engineering, metallurgy and mechatronics have allowed it to diversify into many other fields. Their continued investment in technology has allowed them to make significant advances in both quality and design.
Some of their major innovations include the:
- The Seiko Astron, which was the world’s first quartz watch and introduced in 1969
- The world’s first LCD quartz watch with six-digit digital display
- The world’s first multi-function digital watch.
- The world’s first automatic power generating quartz watch.
- The world’s first intelligent analogue quartz watch with alarm,chronograph and timer functions controlled by an IC “computer on a chip”
- 1990 saw the world’s first computerised diver’s watch “Scubamaster”
Other major advances include:
- 1999 saw the introduction of the Seiko Kinetic Auto Relay watch, which automatically resumes correct indication of current time.
- Introduction of hand wound spring-drive watch with quartz accuracy
- 2003 Introduction of Kinetic Perpetual Calendar
- 2005 Introduction of Spring Drive
- 2006 Introduction of Credor Spring Drive Sonnerie
- 2007 Introduction of Spring Drive Chronograph
Whilst this list is not exhaustive it shows that Seiko watches continue to make massive advances in the design and manufacture of their much sought after ladies and mens wrist watches, providing quality at an affordable price.
